Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche is hoping that lawmakers will remove the “acting” from his title today as he seeks the nomination for the job as America’s top lawyer. “Seventeen months ago, I sat at this table as the nominee to be Deputy Attorney General, and I told you that serving in the Justice Department was my American dream,” he will tell them, according to a pre-released excerpt from his opening statement. “Since then, I have helped lead it—first as Deputy, and now as Acting Attorney General. I am here today to earn your trust once again.”
Well, good luck with that! Blanche has earned Donald Trump’s trust by acting as his official attack dog, going after the president’s enemies with a vengeance. But that has certainly not endeared him to Democratic members, who are wary of him.
Watch out for questions about the aborted $1.8 billion slush fund he tried to set up to pay Jan 6ers and others who felt they were treated harshly by the government (as in Joe Biden’s government). Dick Durbin has already claimed Blanche confessed the fund was a “mistake.”
And the fact that Ghislaine Maxwell was miraculously moved to a cushy jail after telling Blanche that Trump did absolutely nothing wrong in his dealings with Jeffrey Epstein.
He is definitely loyal. But the AG needs to be trusted by the country. Not by one man.
